A middled aged man has been feared dead following a failed attempt by hired thugs to disrupt the ‎inauguration of an Acting Chairman and executive of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Bayelsa State.

The deceased, who was said to be a member of the party died from a strayed bullet exchange between the suspected attackers and the security personnel. About five other party faithful sustained different degree of injuries during the stampede within the secretariat complex.

The hired thugs, armed with placards and dangerous weapons, stormed the secretariat in their numbers to allegedly disrupt the event and protested against last week expulsion of the former party Chairman, Chief Tiwei Orunimighe‎.

But the invasion, which was resisted by the APC faithful, however resulted in stampede after security personnel shot sporadically into the air after suspected gun shot from an ex-militant leader allegedly involved in the attack.

The sporadic shooting provoked panic among residents of the State with a detachment of military men apprehending the tinted glass bus used by the suspected attackers along the Bay Bridge Road in Yenagoa.

Speaking on the development, a Member of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Isreal Sunny-Igoli, expressed concern at the development and accused the expelled Chairman, Chief Tiwei Orunimighe and ex-Militant leader, General Africa Ukpariasa of being responsible for the failed attack. He said,

“the APC members can not be intimidated in Bayelsa State. We know and we believe that the party is on the part of rebuilding and enthronement of peace within its fold.

The sponsors of the attack will be brought to book.” ‎The attack however came while party faithful are waiting for the State Leader and former Bayelsa State Governor, Chief Timipre Sylva and his entourage.
