It is important as a diabetic patient to eat foods that will keep your insulin, blood sugar and inflammation under control and also reduce your risk of developing other chronic diseases.
As a diabetic patient, you might be worried about the food to consume that won’t increase your blood sugar level and other diseases, below is a list of food you can add to your menu;
Garlic:
Garlic contains over 100 chemical compounds with an impressive health benefit. Several kinds of research have shown that consuming garlic can help reduce blood sugar level in people suffering from type 2 diabetes. Scientists found out that raw, cooked or aged garlic extract can help regulate blood glucose and lower the effect of some diabetes complication, as well as aiding blood flow, reduce cholesterol and fight infection.
Caution: large in-take or consumption of garlic has a side effect.
Whole Grains:
Whole grains are packed with fibre which helps lower cholesterol and heart disease risk. Also, fibres slow down digestion and the absorption of carbohydrate which won’t affect your blood sugar level.
Beans:
Beans are an excellent source of protein, fibre and vitamin B. In-take of beans can help reduce blood sugar level and lower cholesterol.
Fatty Fish:
Fish is a great source of protein which helps full you and increases your metabolic rate. Fatty fish contains omega-3 fatty acids called Eicosapentaenoic acid and Docosahexaenoic acid. The consumption of enough fat in your system is good most especially for that diabetic patient with heart disease and stroke because it prevents it. A diet high in polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats can improve blood sugar control and blood lipids in people with diabetes.
Sweet Potatoes:
Sweet potatoes consist of low glycemic index- it is a relative ranking of carbohydrate in the food according to how they affect blood glucose level, which helps in reducing blood sugar level. You can eat your potatoes with either vegetables or salad.
