Senator Shehu Sani has told the Federal Government not to take credit for the Super Eagles’ success at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
The Eagles on Wednesday qualified for the semi-final of the AFCON after defeating South Africa 2-1 in the quarter-final.
Villarreal forward Samuel Chukwueze had given the Eagles an early lead, scoring in the 27th minute.
The South Africans however came out stronger in the second half, equalising through Bongani Zungu in the 71st minute.
The Eagles saved themselves the stress of going into extra time when defender William Troost-Ekong put in a corner by Moses Simon in the 89th minute.
Commenting via his Twitter handle, Sani said the Eagles success had nothing to do with the government’s efforts.
According to the immediate past senator representing Kaduna Central, nobody blamed the government when the team failed.
“Don’t use Super Eagles successes for political propaganda or count their victories as part of ‘the political achievement’; their defeats in the past have never been accepted as part of ‘failure of Government’. We should simply appreciate & celebrate them for flying despite all odds,” he tweeted.
