When suffering from a cold or perhaps after singing your heart out at a concert or cheering too loudly at a football match. If you fall under this category and you can’t seem to speak properly, it’s probably because you’re dealing with laryngitis, an inflammation of your voice box (larynx) that causes your voice to become cracked or hoarse or maybe even disappear completely. Here are a few home remedies for Laryngitis to help alleviate your discomfort but if symptoms persist, please see your doctor.
1. Rest Your Voice
If the cause of your laryngitis is too much shouting, talking or singing, give your vocal cords a break. Try not to talk. When you do, speak softly, but don’t whisper because whispering puts more of a strain on your voice than talking does.
2. Stay Hydrated
Drink plenty of fluids, especially warm ones like soups and teas, but avoid alcohol and caffeine, which will dehydrate you and likely compound the problem.
3. Don’t Try To Clear Your Throat
When your voice sounds off and you feel a little tickle or scratching in your throat, it’s natural to want to try to cough and clear it out. But that won’t help and it might make things worse.
4. Increase Honey Intake
Add a teaspoon of honey to warm tea. Honey is often used to ease sore throats and it may help soothe laryngitis too.
