The Seme Area Command of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), last month generated N701million. The Anti- Smuggling unit of the Command also made 48 seizures with a duty paid value of N32.9 million for the month under review.

The amount raked in August was N202m in excess of the amount generated in July 2017. Customs Area Controller, Mohammed Aliyu, A. said the Command is deploying strategies to boost revenue generation despite the daunting challenges in the country.

He said taking a cursory look at the Command’s revenue profile from January to date, it can be deduced that the fluctuating revenue figure for each month was dependent on the volume of importation through the corridor which could be attributed to some of limiting factors.

He noted that the fluctuating revenue which is now gradually increasing with each passing month, was occasioned by the downturn on economic activities and other technical forms of revenue leakages that are now been professionally addressed, adding that the command is committed and focused in implementing the core functions of the service without distraction.

He affirmed that the leadership of the Command is leaving no stone unturned in order to ensure that every revenue leakages are completely blocked, and the appropriate revenue due to the Federal Government collected.

He charged all officers and men to complement the effort of the Comptroller General in enforcing the policies of the Federal Government through the land borders.

He restated that all hands must be on deck to ensure that the Command perform maximally in revenue generation and anti-smuggling operations.

Comptroller Aliyu said the command is winning the war against smuggling at Seme border, as there is no hiding place for those who indulge in such illegal acts. He urged all officers and men to sustain the tempo of total compliance in enforcing the government fiscal policies.
