Israel’s anti-rocket system Iron Dome intercepted a rocket fired at the Jewish state by militants in Gaza Strip, the Israeli military said. The rocket triggered Code Red sirens in the Hof Ashkelon regional council in southern Israel.

“The Iron Dome Aerial Defense System intercepted a rocket launched towards Israel,” a military spokesperson said in a statement, adding that no injuries or damage were reported.

Earlier on Monday, Israel’s tank and aircraft struck Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip, in response to a rocket attack. Usually the rockets fired into Israel were launched by the militant Islamic Hamas movement in the Gaza Strip.

This was the 10th rocket that was fired from Gaza Strip since U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that the U.S. recognizes Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

The controversial announcement, which was denounced worldwide, triggered violent clashes between Israeli security forces and Palestinians in the West Bank, Gaza Strip and East Jerusalem in the past days. At least four Palestinians have been killed so far in Gaza by Israeli fire, according to Palestinian media.
