Since its establishment, the NDPHC has been led by several individuals who made concerted efforts towards bringing the company closer to fulfilling its mission. The current leadership under Engr Jennifer Adighije has continued to exceed expectations in this regard.

The Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) is a Nigerian power company owned by the federal, state, and local governments. It was established in 2005 to succeed the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) and is responsible for the power plants built under the National Integrated Power Projects (NIPP). NDPHC’s mission is to deliver sustainable power solutions for Nigeria.

Under Jennifer Adighije’s visionary leadership, NDPHC has driven growth and empowered communities, transforming the lives of Nigerians.

Engr Adighije is a strategic and inspirational leader who believes that showing concern for those under her charge i.e., her co-workers and subordinates would inspire them and spark motivation. By keeping them informed of her strategies, she also brings them into a shared vision of driving growth and progress within the organisation.

Within the first 100 days of her appointment, Engr. Jennifer secured the approval of the NDPHC board to pay the staff a management incentive to ease the effects of the fuel subsidy removal. She also converted the contract staff across all power plants, who were considered a third party into direct hires. This move was made to deepen the feeling of participation in the shared goals of the company.

Being passionate about driving impact within the power sector from the reins of the NDPHC, Engr Jennifer has championed innovative power projects targeted at improving the condition of rural dwellers and fostering customer satisfaction.

A few months into her administration, Engr Adighije initiated a power optimization process which led to the addition of a whooping 200 MW to the national grid. This boosted Nigeria’s energy generation capacity to 16.4%, and increased energy access by 5%.

Under her direction, The NDPHC also diversified the energy sector by introducing a solar homes system initiative. Through this innovative strategy, over 20,000 homes within the off-grid communities in the north gained access to electricity.

In another move to address financial challenges within the sector in May 2024, NDPHC under the administration of Engr Adighije announced the cancellation of a N200 billion debt owed by electricity operators and the government.

Additionally, the NDPHC started the year 2025 significantly by restoring two turbine units at the Ihovbor Power Plant in Benin City in the first month of the year. This added a huge 230 MW to the national power grid.

Through these initiatives which are not totally exhausted here, Engr Jennifer continues to strategically position the NDPHC as a key energy generation company in Nigeria. The community-friendly programs such as the solar homes system initiative as well as the debt cancellation are a pointer to her passion for community development and nation building.

As part of her strategy, Engr Jennifer Adighije initiated partnerships with world-class energy companies; General Electric and Siemens (a German company). This is aimed at developing comprehensive world-standard plans to improve the efficiency and reliability of the countries’ power grid. Also, these companies will greatly influence further development of the Nigerian power sector; directly or indirectly.

Through her inclusive leadership, Engr Adighije has carried the staff of the NDPHC along by catering to their concerns and showing them the part they play in fulfilling their mission. Her commitment to nation building has led her to roll out an initiative that has provided lighting to communities where it seemed impossible. This way, those communities will be more conducive for both business and habitation.

With the likes of Engr Adighije at the helm of affairs, there is no doubt that the hopes of the populace have been renewed and such hopes will not be let down. This calls for a big kudos to the President Tinubu-led administration for seeking out capable individuals to direct the affairs of the nation.
