President Bola Tinubu has reportedly appointed the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Nentawe Yilwatda, as the new National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to The Sun, his appointment comes ahead of the party’s National Executive Committee meeting scheduled for 2pm today.
Yilwatda replaces Abdullahi Ganduje, who stepped down from the role due to health concerns.
The decision followed a late-night meeting on Wednesday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, attended by Tinubu, APC governors, and other key party members.
A member of the party’s National Working Committee revealed that the leadership wanted a fresh face who had not been part of the usual political circles.
The source also said Yilwatda’s religious background played a part in balancing the leadership structure of the party.
Before his current role, Yilwatda contested as APC’s governorship candidate in Plateau State during the 2023 elections.
He became Minister in 2023 and has previously served as a Resident Electoral Commissioner in Benue State under INEC.
Born on August 8, 1968, in Kanke Local Government Area of Plateau State, he comes from a Christian cleric family and has a background in engineering and public administration.
