Since the reception of its first set of guests, Eko Hotels and Suites has evolved from a regular international franchise into Africa’s leading independent hospitality brand. The hotel continues to serve as the home for global diplomacy and trade in West Africa.

For the last 50 years, the Eko brand has relentlessly positioned itself as the crown jewel of Nigeria’s hospitality industry. Recently, it announced the commencement of its Golden Jubilee celebrations. This 2026, the hotel commemorates 50 years of unparalleled service, economic impact, and cultural leadership.

Eko Hotels & Suites is an indigenous hospitality powerhouse located in the heart of Victoria Island, Lagos. It comprises four distinct hotels: Eko Signature, Eko Suites, Eko Hotel, and Eko Gardens. The hotel offers over 800 rooms in addition to the continent’s most sought-after convention facilities.

The institution is currently guided by a visionary management team and board. The Director of Sales and Marketing, Dr. Iyadunni Gbadebo, is at the forefront of the hotel’s recent shift from a business hotel to a premier tourism destination. Under its current management, Eko Hotels has successfully transitioned from its historical roots as a Le Méridien and Holiday Inn affiliate into a fully independent, world-class brand, consistently outperforming global chains in service delivery, local relevance, and diplomatic trust.

Central to the 50th-anniversary celebrations is the Africa Legacy Summit, themed “African Hospitality: Rich with Possibility, Ready for Afro Collaboration”. This landmark event, curated by Dr. Gbadebo and her team, aims to transform the narrative of African tourism from an untapped potential to a well-structured opportunity.

By convening tourism ministers, global investors, and hospitality pioneers from across Africa and the Caribbean, Eko Hotels is positioning itself as a policy-shaping entity in the global hospitality landscape. The summit will address critical barriers to intra-African travel and foster partnerships that ensure African hospitality brands can compete on the global stage; all while retaining their unique cultural identity.

For half a century, Eko Hotels has served as Nigeria’s Living Room for heads of state, corporate titans, and international dignitaries. Its prestige as a high-security, high-service hub remains unchallenged. This is evidenced by the hotel’s role as the primary venue for Invest Lagos 3.0 and the Sub Saharan Africa International Petroleum Exhibition (SAIPEC).

Over the last year, Eko Hotels and Suites has further cemented its growth by integrating Green Tourism initiatives into its operations, leading the charge for sustainable hospitality along the Lagos coastline. These steps in the right direction have made Eko Hotels the preferred partner for the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council (CWEIC), as well as other international trade bodies.

Growth at Eko Hotels is measured not only in revenue but in social and cultural capital. The hotel has become a national treasure through its signature Tropical Christmas Wonderland. A holiday delight, which is now in its eighth year as Nigeria’s premier festive destination. By transforming the large space into a theatrical “Kingdom of Lights” in 2025, the hotel boosted domestic tourism and created a platform for local creative talents.

Furthermore, the 50th-anniversary celebrations include a robust Mentorship and Youth Competition program. An event designed to identify and train the next generation of Nigerian hospitality leaders. The aim is to ensure that the beacon of excellence synonymous with the Eko brand is sustained for decades to come.

As Eko Hotels & Suites celebrates its Golden Jubilee this year, it stands as a testament to the power of Nigerian entrepreneurship and resilience. The hotel’s transition from a 1970s landmark to a 2026 global influencer is a source of national pride. By marrying the warmth of African hospitality with the rigor of international standards, the hotel has created a legacy of prestige, visibly rich with possibility.

As the doors open for the Africa Legacy Summit this May, Eko Hotels & Suites invites the world to witness the future of African excellence. A future that is collaborative, sustainable, and undeniably sophisticated.
