Alhaji Ibrahim Ademola Bayo Fashola, the father of the Minister of Power, Works and Housing Mr. Babatunde Fashola, SAN, who was recently immortalised by the family was once a member of staff of Nigeria’s heritage newspaper, The Daily Times.

He was an advert manager with the company, a job he was very passionate about. He later became the pioneer General Manager, Times Leisure Services Ltd, a subsidiary of the Daily Times of Nigeria Plc, the position he meritoriously served until he resigned to join the public service as Secretary, Surulere Local Government, Lagos.

He was born on September 25, 1933 in Lagos to Raji Olayinka Fashola and Sikirat Amori Fashola (nee Shomade), both of blessed memory. When he was 2 years old, he moved to Acheampong Town, Gold Coast in Ghana with his grandmother, Mama Kike.

He grew up there until 1938 before being brought back to Nigeria and left in the care of his paternal grandfather, Tiamiyu Bashorun Fashola, the first born of Alfa Bello Fashola. Pa Ibrahim Ademola Fashola started his primary education at St. Patrick’s Catholic School, Idumagbo Lagos from 1938/39 before going to Ade Oshodi Memorial School.

He later attended Methodist Boys High School, Broad Street, Lagos until 1954. He worked briefly at the Clerical Department of General Hospital Lagos before proceeding to England for further studies in 1956.

Upon his return from England in 1967, Ibrahim Ademola Fashola toook appointment with the Daily Times of Nigeria Plc as advert manager and later became the pioneer General Manager, Times Leisure Services Ltd, a subsidiary of the Daily Times of Nigeria Plc.

His contemporaries at the Daily Times includes Alhaji Babatunde Jose, Prince Henry Odukomaya, Prince Tony Momoh, Aremo Segun Osoba, Mrs. Agbeke Ogunsanwo, and Prof. Idowu Sobowale to mention a few.

Alhaji Ibrahim Ademola Bayo Fashola particularly had a deep passion for photography, a hobby he continued with till his death on 5th August, 2013.

To honour and immortalise him, the family instituted the Fashola Photographic Foundation where upcoming photographers could be assisted to achieve their professional dreams.

The foundation was launched on Saturday, August 5, 2017 at City Hall Lagos. Prior to the launching a one week photographic workshop was organised for upcoming photographers. Fifteen (15) people participated in the workshop. Each of the participants at the end of workshop was required to practice the training through photographic competition. The photographic entries were exhibited along the exhibition mounted by the Daily Times and the winner of the completion was given a free all-expensive paid scholarship for training at New York institute of Photography, USA.
