Médecins Sans Frontières, popularly called Doctors Without Borders, has donated 100 beds to cholera patients receiving treatment at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi State.
The organisation disclosed, in a statement by its Field Communication Manager, Maro Verli, that it had treated 559 patients since the beginning of the outbreak in February.
It added that 243 patients were admitted to its cholera treatment centre, 183 discharged and three deaths reported.
It said added, “To manage the rising number of cases, MSF is closely coordinating its efforts with the Ministry of Health to prevent further spread of cholera and to treat affected patients.
“Support to the Ministry of Health efforts includes the provision of training for its health workers. MSF teams and hospital in Bauchi have received a total of 559 cholera patients since the beginning of the outbreak in February.
“MSF is running extensive projects on child and reproductive health in Sokoto and Jigawa states. MSF also provides care to children affected by lead poisoning in Zamfara and Niger states and to victims of sexual violence in Port Harcourt.
