Anambra Govn’ship election: Obiano clenches APGA ticket

Anambra state governor, Chief Willie Obiano, has emerged the flag bearer of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), for the November 18 governorship election in the state.

The primary election which was conducted under the leadership of the national chairman of APGA, Chief Victor Oye, took place on Tuesday at the Prof Dora Akunyili Women Developments Centre, Awka.

Governor Obiano, who was the sole candidate, was unanimously elected by the total number 1070 out of the 1092 accredited delegates from across the 326 wards in the 21 local government areas of the state, as well as other statutory delegates drawn from members of the National Working Committee (NWC) and National Executive Council (NEC) among others.

Accreditation and screening of delegates for the primary election were earlier conducted at Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka, before proceeding to the Women Development Center.

In his acceptance speech, Chief Obiano noted it was another historic day in the development of the party as he would work assiduously to continue living up to the trust and confidence bestowed on him.

Governor Obiano said his emergence would attract more developments, create strong economic environment that would enhance productivity and promote local made goods.

He promised to invest more on education and offer various scholarships to hard working students in line with provision of adequate facilities and infrastructural developments that would promote sustainable education.

The governor maintained that his administration would continue promoting capital inflows, prompt payment of salaries and allowances to workers in the state, in addition to their promotion.

He restated his resolve to sustain the security in the state, which according to him had attracted influx of investors for job creation and strengthen wealth development.

Highlight of the event was declaration of Governor Obiano as APGA flag bearer by the Chairman of the Panel, Dr. Sani Shinkafi with a total number of 1070 valid votes, out of 1092 of total number of vote cast.
