A woman’s body is delicate. It’s susceptible to health issues, puberty, ageing and most especially childbirth. This is why many women seek to enhance their bodies to maintain a good physique.
With the advancement of science, specifically cosmetic surgery, it is now easy to achieve the desired body shape goal, without having to pad up or sweat for it at the gym.
One of the most common forms of cosmetic surgery is breast implants. Over 400,000 women a year get breast implants, of which 75% are for cosmetic reasons and 30% as a result of mutilation from breast cancer.
Breast implant is fast becoming a trend for women in the world of beauty.
However, as firm and round breast implants can look after surgery, not all body systems are suitable for breast implants.
There are four general types of breast implants, and they are defined by their filler material: Silicone gel, saline solution, composite and structured filler. Each of these implants sizes varies according to body types and body sizes. Breast implant surgeries also follow various methods.
According to medical reports, breast implants come with effects and various complications when the body cannot adapt to the change. These complications may include Skin changes and constant breast pain and back pain amongst others. It could also transcend to breast implant illness.
Breast implant illness is a term commonly used by women who have breast implants, going through various failing systemic symptoms that could be traced to the presence of the implants.
Although Breast implant illness is not a medical term, its effect has been recognized by various medical practitioners who have had patients suffer from the illness. Breast implants illness symptoms include; anxiety, brain fog, insomnia, headaches, depression, rash, chest pain, body odour, hair loss, photosensitivity, chills, rash, and fatigue.
Many women have reported having experienced breast implant illness, some of which reportedly show various degrees of improvement in the patients’ symptoms after removal of the breast implant.
There are online forums and accounts of women with breast implant illness, who have shared their experience down the line suffering from the system change from breast implants.
Robyn Towt a mother of two boys, age 44 was diagnosed with breast cancer.
After recovery, she opted for breast reconstruction with breast implants, which caused great discomfort to her system .Weeks after the surgery, according to her, she developed mysterious symptoms; Migraines, insomnia, hair loss, breathing problems, shoulder and chest pains amongst others. “I got to a point where I couldn’t function and I was pretty much confined to lying on my couch, I have had cancer three times in my life, and those implants made me feel worse than all of my cancer put together,” says Towt.
After learning of other women who went through the same as her, she had her implants removed. In a week after the removal of implants she had for 4 months, all symptoms disappeared. “I was shocked by how much better I felt once the implants were out “, she says.
More so, Tiffanny Pollard the love and hip reality show star, admits that her breast implants caused great discomfort to her. On an episode of Botched, she described symptoms of diarrhoea, dizziness and panic attack every morning. After removal of the implants, she says all symptoms disappeared.
Nevertheless, breast implants do not affect the system in all cases. Medical Study has also shown that there are women who have been living well with their implants for years, women like the country artist Dolly Parton and many others. One major fact plastic surgeons note is that implants are meant to be changed after a span of 10 years.
