Early results from many of the wards across the state in the Anambra governorship election indicate that the incumbent governor and candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Willie Obiano is in an early lead.
In virtually all the wards, the results were compiled and announced in the presence of party agents, and some voters who waited behind to hear the outcome of their efforts before heading home.
Sorting and collation of the final results from all 21 local government areas of the state would be delivered at the state headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Awka where the returning officer for the state would announce the eventual winner.
Meanwhile, a number of the candidates who took part in the election have commended the INEC, and security agents for what they said was a peaceful exercise.
No major event of violence or ballot box snatching was recorded throughout the state during the election. Governor Obiano, as well as the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, Oseloka Obaze both, expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the poll in the state.
But the All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship candidate, Dr. Tony Nwoye, has alleged intimidation and harassment of party supporters in some parts of the state.
Nwoye made this allegation when he voted in his Nsugbe Ward I in Anambra East Local Government Area on Saturday. He decried the arrest and detention of the APC state chairman, Emeka Ibe, “for no just cause.”
Also, some election observers who monitored the election in have expressed mixed feelings over the exercise. Executive Director, Youth Initiative for Advocacy, Growth and Advancement, Samuel Itodo, told the News Agency of Nigeria that materials and personnel arrived various polling units late.
Itodo said 28 per cent of polling units recorded arrival of materials and personnel as at 7.30a.m., except in Awka North and Awka South Local Government Areas where materials and personnel arrived before 7.30a.m. Share this:
