Governor Fubara Approves N85,000 Minimum Wage for Workers; As Seyi Makinde Joins 2027 Presidential Race.
Rivers State, Governor Siminalayi Fubara has officially approved a new minimum wage of N85,000.
Announcement, which has been welcomed by labour unions and employees alike, represents a major step forward in improving the livelihoods of public sector workers in the state.
The governor made the announcement on Friday during a press briefing, citing the rising cost of living and the need to ensure that workers can sustain themselves and their families.
The approved amount far exceeds the national minimum wage of N30,000, positioning Rivers State as one of the leading states in the country in terms of worker welfare.
“This new wage is part of our administration’s commitment to ensuring that workers in Rivers State are fairly compensated for their labor,” Fubara said. “We recognize the challenges many families are facing due to inflation, and this increment is a reflection of our efforts to address these concerns.”
The wage increase is expected to benefit thousands of public sector workers, including those in the education, health, and civil service sectors. It also sends a positive signal to other states, many of which are grappling with their own challenges related to worker welfare and economic pressures.
At the moment, the governor is hosting PDP press corps members in Ibadan, where he is showcasing his projects in the southwest states.
Interestingly, the official social media handles of the PDP have been using the hashtag #MakindeForPresident while posting photos and videos of the signature projects.
Makinde has since positioned himself as a strong contender for the presidency in the main opposition party and the launch of the hashtag suggests the campaign for the Oyo governor’s presidential bid has officially kicked off.
