The Governor of the State of Osun, Mr Adegboyega Oyetola, has said his administration is committed to ensuring that both the present and future of rhe children of the State are secured and guaranteed.
This, according to him, is the strategic inspuration behind his administration’s assiduous commitment to building an Osun that is peaceful, forward-looking and progressive.
“We realise that tomorrow is only worth waiting for if your rights are protected, and if we care to provide the right kind of society that enables that enables you to live to your fullest potential.
“And for us, this is one commitment we take seriously, knowing its importance.
“Therefore, we continue to prioritise the development of our education system by sustaining the home-groen school-feeding programme, building of new school infrastructures and equipping them.
“We are also paying attention to the welfare of our teachers so that they can be motivated to teach better. The fact that in our 2021 budget, the chunk of 18 percent was voted for education is a strong indication that we mean.
“For us, no sacrifice is too great to pay in ensuring that we give you a childhood you can fondly remember while preparing you to function effectively for a proud tomorrow, in the service of our dear State and the world in general.
“I urge you to work hard in being the best you can be. The pathway to an outstanding life is spotted with many distractions and it your duty to avoid any that will hinder you from fulfilling your potential”, Oyetola stated.
In her welcome address, the Commissioner for Women, Children and Social Affairs, Barrister Bukola Olaboopo, urged parents to be conscious of the safety of their children at all times, adding that the increasing complexity of the society today does not leaving children unattended.
Olaboopo warned perpetrators of evil acts against children that: “Osun is a danger zone as anyone caught would be made to dance naked in full glare”.
Olaboopo lauded the Oyetola-led government of the State of Osun for its commitment to the welfare and development of children, adding that its commitment paid off in the previous year when Osun was named the most children-friendly state in the country.
“The state in 2020 broke record to become the most children-friendly state in Nigeria owing to the visit of the hierarchy of the state’s Ministry of Women and Children Affairs to the Nigerian Borstal Institution, a Federal Government Juvenile Correctional Centre, to check on children from Osun who ran in conflict with the law and were sentenced to the facility. This was the first of its kind since the establishment of the facility”, Olaboopo stated.
