The Management of Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, has denied that the newly installed 60 MVA transformer in Dan Agundi Substation in Kano broke down two days after installation as reported in the Nation Newspaper on-line platform credited to Mr Sani Bala Sani, Head, Corporate Communications, Kano Electricity Distribution Company.
In a release by the company and signed by the General Manager, Public Affairs, Mrs Ndidi Mbah, TCN said the transformer did not break down but tripped following the fault on the Kano DisCo 33kV Club feeder.
TCN’s power transformers are installed with high efficiency protection devices that trip the transformers when distribution feeders develop faults in order to preserve the transformers. If the power transformers are not adequately protected, then any distribution fault would destroy the power transformers, which cost fortunes to install or replace.
When the Dan Agundi Transformer tripped on Thursday, 29th March, TCN immediately informed Kano DisCo representatives who patrolled and cleared the fault before the power transformer was restored same day and wheeled 30 MW to Kano DisCo load centres.
The 60MVA Dan Agundi Transformer is still in operation supplying bulk power to the Kano DisCo load centres for onward distribution to her customers.
TCN is committed to increasing its capacity to wheel more reliable power to all DisCo load centres nationwide. The several on-going transmission projects in various parts of the country are pointers to this TCN Management commitment, which is supported by several multi-lateral donors and the Presidency.
