Genk striker, Cyriel Dessers, has hinted that he could still represent Belgium, despite committing his international future to Nigeria.
The 25-year-old is eligible to play for the three-time African champions through his mother who is from Lagos.
However, he could also play for Belgium, where he was born and the country of his father.
Last year, Dessers met with top Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) officials in London and also secured a Nigerian passport.
He was set to make his Super Eagles debut in the 2021 Africa Cup Of Nations double-header qualifiers against Sierra Leone, but the match was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
But in an interview with Het Belang van Limburg, he has now admitted he is still open to playing for Belgium.
“One of my best friends is a video analyst with the Red Devils (Belgium). So I sometimes catch something, but I’ve not yet spoken to Martínez (Roberto).
“I am focused on Genk and scoring goals. The rest will come naturally. At the moment, the national team is not an issue, we will know more in September. Belgium? Nigeria? Maybe I’ll be called up somewhere, maybe not,” Dessers said.
