The Maiduguri Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Monday, January 31, 2022, arraigned a serial land fraudster, Al-Amin Idris before Justice Aisha Kumaliya of the Borno State High Court, Maiduguri on one count charge of obtaining Four Million Naira (N4, 000,000.00) by false pretence.
The defendant fraudulently induced one Muhammad H. K Shani to deliver to him the sum of Four Million Naira (4, 000,000.00) on the pretext that he was genuinely selling a plot of land to the nominal complainant.
The count reads “That you Al-Amin Idris sometime in November 2018 in Maiduguri Borno State, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court fraudulently induced one Mohammed H. K Shani to deliver to you the sum of Four Million Naira (N4, 000,000.00) only under false pretence that you were genuinely selling to him a piece of land lying and situate at Plot No. 275 on BOTP/72 Pompamari Residential Layout, Maiduguri covered by Right of Occupancy No. BO/6387, which you knew to be false and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under sections 1(1) (b) and 1(3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006 respectively”.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him.
In view of his plea, prosecution counsel, Alqasim Ja’afar prayed the court to fix a date for trial and remand the defendant.
Justice Kumaliya adjourned the matter till 18th February, 2022 and ordered the remand of the defendant in prison custody.
