Nigerians have commended the Nigeria Football Federation on the transparent manner with which it shared the COVID-19 relief funds from FIFA, CAF, and other sponsors.
The NFF on Tuesday released a list of how the total money, $2m, was shared amongst national teams, clubs, coaches and major stakeholders.
Reacting, some Nigerians, who spoke with The PUNCH, applauded the football governing body for its transparency.
A fan, Olumide Adebayo, said, “This show of accountability by the NFF is a welcome development especially in times when government agencies keep funds’ disbursement a top secret.
“Let us hope that things like this become a norm for the federation.”
Seun Popoola said, “I think it is a step forward to have the breakdown of funds distribution released to the public.
“I commend the NFF and I also feel this will help check corruption in a way because after publication, each area that benefited from these funds can authenticate the amount published by the NFF.
“This is a step closer to integrity and transparency and we hope to see this step repeated in coming years and also replicated in other dealings outside football.”
“I have never been a fan of NFF administrators, but they almost want to make me have a change of mind with the way they handled this palliative funds because I am impressed,” Ekene George stated.
Tope Adekunle said since the federation was often criticised for wrongdoings, it was also right to commend them for taking the right step.
He said. “I thought I was dreaming. But even if it was a dream I’m not sure I want to wake up from my sleep.
“Thumbs up Amaju and the others. When a child is not doing well, we rebuke him but often forget to praise him when he passes. So, let me say well done to the NFF board.”
