Gov. Okowa Charges Stakeholders On Curbing Security Challenges

Delta State Governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa has called for the cooperation of all stakeholders in tackling the various security challenges facing the country.

Speaking yesterday in Asaba, at the opening ceremony of the Federal and State Security Administrators’ Meeting [FSSAM], Governor Okowa who was represented by the Head OF Service, Mr. Reginald Bayoko said that “security is of great importance to the socio-economic and political development of any society”.

“I must make it clear that security is the responsibility of all, this role should not be left to the security agencies alone, we, as parents, religious bodies, clerics and the society at large, have special roles to play in moulding the character of the youth so that they do not become criminals”, he said, adding “let me assure this gathering and indeed the good people of Delta State, that government will not relent in its commitment to ensure adequate security in the State”.

He charged the gathering to x-ray the myriad security challenges and come up with recommendations stating “This meeting is most appropriate, as the country is facing various security challenges and I believe it will provide a veritable platform to seriously address such issues as terrorism, kidnapping and armed robbery, among others, and come up with far reaching recommendations”.

The governor assured security agencies in the state of his administration’s continued support in maintain the existing peace and security.

Earlier, The FSSAM Chairman, represented by Mrs Emi Ogungboye advocated for increased sensitisation of Nigerians on ways of improving security in public places especially churches, mosques, bars and shopping malls.

She decried the various security challenges like kidnappings, pipeline vandalism and cultism in the country and urged Nigerians to always provide useful information to security agencies to curb these menace.
