…says Nigeria does not need a Divisionist
A support group, the Asiwaju Progressive Movement has expressed shock at the tribal comments credited to People’s Democratic Party’s Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
The group in a statement signed by its spokesperson, Joshua Owoyomi said it is taken aback with the discriminative words of Alh. Atiku Abubakar.
“It is not only surprising but totally disappointing that a former Vice President of Nigeria could utter such words in a multi-tribal country like Nigeria”, it said.
Querying Atiku’s desperation for Presidency, the group said, “The question is what has quest for office turned our people into? Why would a man who is contesting to lead the whole of Nigeria now a tribal campaigner? A man that is supposed to be a senior citizen, who should be seen encouraging togetherness is the one leading division music?”.
Speaking further, Owoyomi said, “this is a regrettable sign of desperation for power.
The group noted that Nigeria does not need a President who would divide it at this crucial time, rather it needs a President who would unite it.
“Let it be known to the former VP that our country is not looking to elect a divisionist at this time in our history but a unifier”, it said.
“We are looking for a leader who doesn’t consider tribe, religion or status before working with you. Our nation is looking for a leader who has the capability, capacity and mindfulness to see all tribes of the country as one. A leader with the track record of building men and women of honour from all tribes across the country”.
“Let it be known to the former Vice President that his message is clear and well understood by the people. He has exposed his bigotry to the people and Nigerians are definitely not looking for a bigot to lead them”.
“Come February 2023, Nigerians will elect a man who believes that our diversity is a promise for prosperity.
Nigerians stand together to condemn this barbaric attack on our unity as a people by the former Vice President who should know better”, the group concluded.
