Deputy Governor of Imo State, Engr. Gerald Irona says the present administration in the state, under the leadership of Chief Emeka Ihedioha is building stronger institutions in the state.

The Deputy Governor who disclosed this while receiving a delegation of the Public Interest and Development Law, a section of the Nigerian Bar Association-NBA in his office Tuesday afternoon, assured that the administration is committed to the promotion of rule of law in the state.

“This administration is committed to rule of law. To have good governance, rule of law must be our guide. We are taking steps towards building stronger institutions, than strong individuals. We intend to leave an enduring legacy of rule of law and good governance. We shall, in all our dealings, give respect to the other arms of government. We shall leave a lasting and sustainable foundation predicated on the rule of law.”

“We had instances where governments in the past disobeyed court pronouncements. We assure you that we shall obey all court pronouncements. Anyone we feel strongly against, we shall challenge it in higher courts. We have zero tolerance for impunity.”

Earlier in his presentation, leader of the delegation and Chairman of Section on Public Interest and Development Law-SPIDEL of the NBA, Dr. Paul Ananaba, SAN, commended the administration of chief Emeka Ihedioha for keeping faith with the rule of law.

He expressed the willingness of SPIDEL to partner the state government in ensuring that the rule of law is mainstreamed in governance in the state.

He however used the occasion to inform the Deputy Governor of the decision of the group to honour Governor Emeka Ihedioha at SPIDEL’s annual Conference holding on the 6th of November, 2019.

“SPIDEL is one of the three sections of the Nigerian Bar Association. This section attends to all issues relating to Public Interest and Development Law.”

“It will interest you to note that since the inception of the section, no Conference has been held, East of the Niger. Lawyers here in Imo State speak well about you. They have continued to commend you for your commitment to rule of law and obedience to judicial pronouncements. We have seen some level of stability and sanity in the state since your assumption of office. We no longer get reports of the kind of things that happened during the last administration. That is why we are here to invite you to our event holding from the 6th to 8th of November, 2019. We hope to honour the Governor at the event. We have resolved to honour you for your sterling qualities in the area of Public Interest Development. With what you have done in the last few months, we are proud to identify with you.”

On the NBA-SPIDEL delegation were Chairman, Dr. Paul Ananaba, SAN and Legal Adviser to Abia State Governor, Sir Emeka Eze.

Others are: I.N.I. Iheanacho, Eze Alala, Jesse Nwaenyi, Prince Amadi, Collins Essell, Queendaline Ubani and Ijeoma Aliche.
