The rift between the Imo State Executive and the legislative arms Thursday claimed one casualty as the lawmakers suspended the clerk of the House Mr. Chris Duru.
The lawmakers also ordered for full investigation on the activities from 2011 till date. The motion for the suspension of the clerk was moved by the majority leader and the member representing Owerri Municipal, Mr. Luguard Osuji accused the clerk of grossly under performed his duties to the detriment of the House and collective efforts of Assembly members.
The motion which was supported by 20 other members said that it is responsibility of the clerk to collect, process and transmit bills and resolution of house to the executive for the assent of the governor and other legitimate official purpose but the clerk ignored his official duties.
The state lawmakers on Tuesday boycotted 2018 budget presentation by Governor Rochas Okorocha citing neglect and disrespect on the part of the executive.
It was gathered that accused Governor Okorocha of not releasing their constituency allowance, embarking projects not captured in the 2017 budget and non-accountability of Paris funds. Meanwhile, the motion to suspend the clerk of the house was opposed by the Speaker Chief Acho Ihim and two other members.
