One thing you can never take away from him is that Senator Kabiru Gaya is passionate about empowering young people, not only from his State, Kano, but across the country. He takes great pride in mentoring youths to seek creative ways of channeling their energies for excellence. The lawmaker who represents Kano South at the Senate, is a pan-Africanist and avowed promoter of the Pan African dream of regional integration and trade.
For Senator Kabiru Gaya, life has tilted some enriching ideas towards him, which in turn has prepared him for future challenges in politics, business or family front. He has positively represented his State and further put it in the eyes of the world, for positive reasons. Born June 16, 1952, this man of many parts possesses a respectable pedigree and a reputable circle of friends, within and outside his state.
Indeed, this great man is endowed with traits reflective of his words which inspire his true being. For Senator Kabiru Gaya, who would join the Septuagenarian club on June 16, 2022, life is indeed a challenge, which one has to make good choices from.
The soon to be septuagenarian is a politician who does not take no for an answer; he believes nothing is impossible. An astute politician of many decades, Gaya guns for his wishes in politics and many times, he gets whatever he wants.
As a productive politician, Senator Gaya sees resilience in the face of failure and never sees failure as the final word. He sees every risk has the potential to make or mar one’s political career. “By not taking risks, you remain on the borderline”. This could be one of the reasons he took up the Osinbajo challenge.
This may lend credence to why he boasts of a respectable pedigree and rich circle of friends. It is no more news that this Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria heads the Vice President’s Campaign Organizations.
This busy assignment of delivering the high mandate of the Osinbajo candidacy has not hindered his performance as a lawmaker.
Interestingly, Kabiru Gaya, a serving senator, was governor of Kano state in 1992. Kabiru Gaya, in 2014 declared his intention to contest the Kano State governorship election under the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in 2015.
He said that his decision to enter the governorship race was borne out of his desire to bring about the much-needed development in the state. For the lawmaker, journalists played a significant role when he contested for the governorship of the state and won in 1992. Perhaps this is why he built an ICT centre at Nigeria Union of Journalists Secretariat, equipped with 15 computer sets, Internet facility, air conditioners and a power generating set, among others.
He has enjoyed the necessary support and cooperation a politician could ever ask for from the people of Kano.
As a sitting senator, Kabiru Gaya has been able to provide dividends of democracy since he was elected as Senator representing Kano South Senatorial zone.
He has established classrooms in each of the 44 local government areas of the state, in addition to the establishment of skills acquisition centres in his constituency.
The Senator has empowered a number of women and youths under the poverty alleviation programmes, built over 5, 000 irrigation tube wells and constructed a number of solar-powered bore holes in various parts of the state, among others.
The essence of leadership is performance, so he has not stopped in doing more in order to improve the living standard of his people.
He is one of the most sought after lawmakers, especially as it concerns constituency development.
He manages to combine his duties as the Chairman, Committee on INEC and other functions. To him, everyday throws up new challenges and opportunities that can change the course of his day.
As one with experience on the floor of the Senate, it excites him to lend words of advice to many of his co-lawmakers. This drives Gaya, as ultimately, he finds joy, and pleasure in lending hands of help to others. He believes nothing is too big to overcome, if you put your mind to it.
