The Task Force that was constituted by the Kaduna State Government and inaugurated by the Honourable Commissioner Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Hon. Amina Dyeris Sijuwade has swung into action on Monday 26th November 2018, to carry out the verification of all the mining and quarry sites/Companies across the state as approved by the State Executive Council. For administrative and operational convenience, the Task Force was divided into three groups to cover the three Senatorial Zones of the State.
While addressing members of the Task Force shortly before departure, Honourable Amina Dyeris Sijuwade reiterated that, the Verification exercise which is going to be in phases, will avail the opportunity to identify the number and locations of the mining projects as well as assess the Environmental Compliance of the Mining Companies which is crucial to avert negative impact on the host communities and the State as a whole.
The Task Force is said to be the first of its kind to be put in place by any state in Nigeria. The confirmation was given by the Honourable Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development, Hon. Abubakar Bawa-Bwari at the Second Meeting of the National Council on Mining and Minerals Resources Development hosted by Kaduna State Government in October 2018.
The information to be generated by the Task Force will serve as a base line data on the status of mining activities in the State, which will be used for planning purposes.
