The Board of Directors of Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC), has officially confirmed Mrs. Rekhiat Momoh as the Substantive Managing Director/CEO. This appointment marks a new phase for one of Nigeria’s leading electricity distribution companies. It also solidifies the leadership that has already delivered significant strides in service improvement and customer engagement across its extensive franchise area. EKEDC, also known as Eko Disco covers the southern part of Lagos State and the Agbara community in Ogun State.

Mrs. Momoh’s appointment is a testament to her profound expertise and dedication, cultivated over 31 years of meritorious service within the power sector. She undertook various roles, witnessing the transformative journey of the Nigerian power sector from the frontlines. Her unique blend of expertise spans critical operational areas, including Aggregate Technical, Commercial & Collection (ATC&C) Loss Reduction Management, Debt Recovery, Policy and Compliance Management, and Electricity Marketing Solution.

Since its establishment in 2013 after the privatization of the power sector, EKEDC has been primarily focused on improving the quality of life for its customers by providing reliable, sustainable, and safe electricity supply. This mission, however, has been challenged by infrastructural and financial setbacks as well as complex regulatory and policy issues plaguing the Nigerian power distribution sector.

After Mrs. Momoh’s initial appointment as the Acting MD of EKEDC in March 2024, the company has witnessed a period of renewed operational focus and customer outreach. Her confirmation to the substantive role ensures the continuity of the strategic initiatives she spearheaded. This also shows the company’s confidence in her capacity to navigate the sector’s complexities and accelerate the company’s performance.

Within weeks of assuming the acting role, the company achieved an extraordinary advancement in loss reduction. The Aggregated Technical, Commercial, and Collection (ATC&C) losses dropped dramatically to 10.51% in March 2024 from 30.87% in February 2024. EKEDC achieved an exceptional 99% collection efficiency in March 2024. By April 2025, the company reached a remarkable 100% collection efficiency on a revenue of N38.7 billion, firmly establishing EKEDC as a revenue leader among Nigeria’s distribution companies.

Under Mrs. Rekhiat Momoh’s guidance, EKEDC has also aggressively prioritized customer satisfaction and infrastructure renewal. She championed the implementation and migration to the All-In-One (AIO) customer experience vending platform. This technological upgrade revolutionized customer interactions, providing faster credit purchases, improved balance checks, and streamlined billing processes.

With her, the company demonstrated a renewed commitment to customer satisfaction through initiatives like the EKEDC Customers Consultative Forum held in November 2024. During this forum, held at the Apapa Business Unit, Mrs. Momoh used the platform to emphasize the importance of conscious electricity consumption and address concerns over the higher tariffs associated with Band A customers. She stated that the billing reflects the true cost of doing business, including all operational expenses.

Demonstrating a commitment to an infrastructural turnaround, Mrs. Momoh oversaw the delivery of more than 150 Transformers for communities with overloaded equipment. While unveiling these, she took a firm public stance against illegal practices. She noted that it is not incumbent on communities to fix or procure a transformer for themselves, and urged the reporting of officials who attempt to coerce communities into doing so.

Her impact has been recognized across the sector, earning multiple accolades for herself and the company. These include the prestigious Energy Times Power Sector CEO of the Year Award and the Best Customer Care (Electricity Distribution) award at the 14th West Africa Innovation Awards in 2025. She was also recognised as one of the Top 50 best-performing CEOs in Nigeria.

As Mrs. Momoh’s tenure progresses, EKEDC is positioned for continued focus on increasing both its capacity and efficiency to improve power supply and customer satisfaction. This is being achieved through a multi-pronged strategy, including infrastructure upgrades, customer-centric operations, and reducing technical and commercial losses.

It has been an applaudable period of dedicated leadership for Mrs. Momoh. She prioritized customer satisfaction and engagement, prompting the need for infrastructural development as well as better operational strategies. EKEDC continues to build around these goals and now that the position of Mrs. Rekhiat Momoh has been solidified, there is nothing left to be said concerning the level of positive impact which it would have on the Nigerian economy as well as the quality of life for its customers.
