A Turkish club, Sarayköyspo have confirmed that their Nigerian striker, Ekundayo Mawoyeka, has died of heart attack.

According to Sporting Life, Mawoyeka passed on while playing for Sarayköyspo against Yetaganspor on November 4 in Turkey.

The 23-year-old collapsed in the 35th minute of the game and was immediately rushed to the Servergazi State hospital after efforts to revive him on the pitch failed.

Mawoyeka, who scored the last goal for his side, eventually passed away.

“We have learned that our football player Ekundayo ‘Eko’ Mawoyeka has passed away from a heart attack in 35 minutes after the match with Yeşilköyspor. We wish all the lovers, especially the sad family of our footballer, our community and patience,” Sarayköyspor said in a statement posted on their Facebook page.

“You gave us your last goal before we left, we loved you very much. Your memories, that smiling face will always live, we will never forget Eko. We’ll have you living there pretty much.”
