Delta State governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, on Friday, charged Nigerians to positively impact on humanity in such a manner that people could speak well of them when they exit on earth.
Governor Okowa gave the charge during the funeral service held in honour of late Madam Ititi Unuajohwhofia Edevbie at Agbara-Otor in Ughelli North Local Government Area of the state.
He disclosed that it was important for Nigerians to ensure that they do the best that they could in the interest of humanity, adding that they should accept the Lord Jesus by giving their life to God.
While saying that he was impressed with the life Madam Unuajohwhofia Edevbie lived, the governor said “very importantly, I have listened to the biography of mama and I am very delighted to note that she impacted positively on the lives of people who came in contact with her when she was alive and that she was a model to several persons.
“We are celebrating mama today, she is already gone. It is between her spirit and the Lord our God but the real thing that we are doing here today is about those of us who are alive. When you are gone, what would you be remembered for?
“So, truly, this funeral service is not about mama because she is gone already and to God be the glory for her life. It is about those of us who are living. We have to ensure that we do the best we can.
“First, is to accept the Lord Jesus and give your life to God. Secondly is to ensure that you impact on humanity in such a manner that when you exit, when people gather together, they will have sweet stories to tell about you, about how you touched lives even as we have heard about what mama did.”
Earlier in his sermon titled “Death As A Gospel,” the Vice President (Ministerial) of the Nigerian Baptist Convention, Revd. Dr. Dickson Madoghwe who applauded the children of the centenarian for taking good care of their mother when she was alive, said death as a gospel, reminds us that the world is not our permanent home.
Revd. Madoghwe who quoted copiously from the holy Bible enjoined Christians in the country to live an impactful and purposeful life, pointing out that death as a gospel, reminds Christians to live with eternity in view.
He, therefore, urged Christians to wholeheartedly receive Jesus Christ as their Lord and saviour, stressing that they should endeavour to have daily communion with God.
The funeral service was attended by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa; the Akwa Ibom State governor, Udom Emmanuel who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Mr. Ephraim Iyiam; Maj. Gen. Alex Ogomudia (Rtd.); National President of the Nigeria Bar Association, Olu Akpata; the state Commissioner for Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu; the Chief of Staff, Government House, Olorogun David Edevbie and Prof. and Mrs. Sam Oyobaire among other dignitaries.
The governor later went to Issele-Uku where he attended the burial ceremony of Late Sir Marcel Mekowuhe Nwaobi, father of the member representing Aniocha North Local Government Area in the Delta State House of Assembly, Engr. Emeka Nwaobi.
