A bus driver was killed and 30 doctors injured when the bus collided with another vehicle in the western Indian state of Maharashtra, police said Saturday.
“The accident occurred when a bus carrying a team of doctors collided with another vehicle on Kedgoan bypass in Ahmednagar late Friday night,” a police official said.
According to Xinhua news agency, the official said while the bus driver died on the spot, the injured doctors have been admitted to a nearby hospital, where a few were said to be in serious condition.
The doctors of a reputed hospital were going to Aurangabad town from state capital Mumbai to attend a medical conference when the mishap occurred.
Local media reports said, quoting witnesses that the bus was travelling at high speed as a result of which the driver lost control of the vehicle, leading to the crash.
India has the highest number of road fatalities in the world. Road accidents occur mostly due to poor driving or badly maintained roads and vehicles.
