A police corporal on Tuesday killed a sergeant at a bar in Gulak town, Madagali area of Adamawa State after the sergeant bought a drink from a woman considered the corporal’s girlfriend.

Residents said Corporal Bala Adamu released the trigger after a verbal row, killing sergeant Emmanuel Timothy on the spot.

Witnesses said Timothy, a member of 13 Squadron Police Mobile Force Makurdi who was on special duty in Madagali bought local gin for N100 from a woman who happened to be Corporal Adamu’s girl friend.

The lady urged the sergeant to pay in cash since he owed her some money while he tried to persuade her to add the N100 to existing debt.

They added that when Adamu spotted Timothy chatting with the lady, he became jealous and rushed to them in fury, warning the sergeant to stay away from his lover.

After brief verbal altercation, Adamu quickly lifted his rifle and fired a shot before he was finally arrested along with the female trader.
The police spokes man in Adamawa, Othman Abubakar confirmed the incident, saying the killer had been arrested while the corpse of the slain sergeant had been deposited in the mortuary as investigation commenced
