The United States Ambassador to Nigeria, Stuart Symington, has reiterated his country’s support for the fight against corruption and good governance in Nigeria
Symington made this known on Wednesday, October 17, 2018, during a courtesy visit to the Acting Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, at the Commission’s new Head Office, Jabi, Abuja.
The ambassador stressed that his country was committed to providing the needed support for the EFCC, towards eradicating all manners of corruption in the country.
The envoy gave reasons for his visit, stressing that Nigeria is strategic to the United States of Ameria, USA. He also said it was important for every country to build the trust and confidence of its people on institutions like the EFCC.
Symington admonished the agency not to despair but rather continue its good work to make the EFCC a world class and respected institution like the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation, FBI.
In his remarks, Magu thanked the USA government for all the supports accorded the Commission especially in the area of training of the Commission’s staff. He recalled that the U.S. was among the first western nations to embrace the EFCC when many did not give it any chance to succeed.
The ambassador was later taken on a tour around the facilities at the new Head Office.
