ValueJet, Nigeria’s premier hybrid carrier, recently announced a fresh progress in its growth journey. Following an inaugural flight on March 30, 2026, the airline marked the successful launch of daily flight operations between Lagos, Nigeria and Accra, Ghana. This expansion signals a new era for the airline as it aggressively scales its presence across West Africa. By closing the gap between two of the region’s most vibrant economic hubs, ValueJet is not merely expanding its route network. The carrier is focused on actively facilitating a more integrated, accessible, and prosperous West Africa.

ValueJet was established in 2018 with a singular, disruptive vision. That is to make air travel an affordable reality for the average citizen without compromising the luxury and reliability of legacy carriers. Led by Kunle Soname, its chairman, the airline officially commenced commercial operations in October 2022, positioning itself as Nigeria’s first hybrid airline. This innovative model offers a spectrum of services ranging from budget-friendly options to premium legacy experiences. The goal is to ensure every passenger finds a tier that suits their needs. Headquartered in Lagos, the airline has rapidly evolved from a domestic upstart into a regional contender. The ValueJet philosophy is that high-quality aviation should be a catalyst for national and continental development.

The commencement of the Lagos-Accra-Lagos service represents the cornerstone of ValueJet’s 2026 “West African Bridge” strategy. This milestone comes less than one year after the airline’s successful international debut in Banjul, The Gambia, in May 2025. By maintaining a daily schedule from the new terminal of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), ValueJet is providing a critical link for business travelers, tourists, and cultural exchange. The airline has also disclosed that it is on the verge of securing operational permits for Cotonou, Benin Republic, and Malabo, Equatorial Guinea. Ultimately, ValueJet seeks to create a stress-free travel channel across the West African coast.

ValueJet’s Managing Director, Capt. Omololu Majekodunmi, emphasized the importance of this expansion during the Accra inaugural ceremony:

“We are thrilled to commence our regional service with the inaugural flight between Lagos and Accra. This is a significant step for ValueJet as we expand our network beyond Nigeria and across the African continent. With this new route, we aim to enhance connectivity between Nigeria and Ghana, fostering tourism, trade, and tighter economic and cultural ties.”

To solidify this ambitious regional move, ValueJet has calculatively fortified its technical capacity. In March 2026, the airline successfully inducted its fourth Bombardier CRJ-900 aircraft into its fleet. This cements ValueJet’s position as the third-largest operator of this aircraft type in Africa. The CRJ-900 is known for fuel efficiency, reduced carbon footprint, and superior passenger comfort. It is the ideal vessel for the short-to-medium-haul regional routes within the West African corridor.

Additionally, the airline’s operational statistics continue to set it apart in the industry. ValueJet recorded an on-time performance (OTP) exceeding 95% across its six domestic stations, in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Benin, Asaba, and Jos. This reliability is the hallmark of the ValueJet brand. Passengers spend less time in terminals, so they can spend enough time at their destinations.

In line with its mission to provide hybrid experiences, ValueJet continues to distinguish itself through its flexible three-tier pricing and service model. There’s ValueLite; tailored for the frequent traveler, offering competitive fares with essential hand luggage. Secondly, it offers ValuePlus which is primarily for the modern professional, including checked baggage and enhanced flexibility. Finally, ValuePremium is the highest, offering top-tier experience such as priority boarding, increased baggage allowance, and a legacy-style inflight service.

As ValueJet looks toward the second half of 2026, its commitment to serving valuable flight experience remains unshakeable. By combining the agility of a low-cost carrier with the service standards of a global leader, ValueJet is proving that the future of African aviation is not just about flying. The airline is more concerned about connecting people, dreams, and opportunities with precision and pride.
