The Management and Board of First City Monument Bank (FCMB) Plc has named Yemisi Edun as Acting Managing Director, subject to regulatory approvals which will be subsequently announced in the coming days.
Yemisi Edun will be the 4th female CEO of a commercial bank, following Fidelity Bank, Unity Bank, and CitiBank.
She is a veteran in the financial space with experience spanning over three decades, joining the bank from Akintola Williams Deloitte. She is an alumna of OAU and University of Liverpool, UK where she bagged a Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree in Chemistry and Accounting respectively.
According to a reliable source in the bank, the decision to appoint Yemisi Edun was taken in a bid to fill the void left by the former Managing Director, Adam Nuru, who proceeded on a voluntary leave to ensure sanctity in the bank’s investigation of charges against him.
Yemisi Edun holds a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from the University of Ife, Ile-Ife and a Master’s degree in International Accounting and Finance from the University of Liverpool, United Kingdom.
She is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and a CFA® Charter holder. She is also an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers; an Associate Member of the Institute of Taxation of Nigeria; a Member of Information Systems Audit and Control, U.S.A; and a Certified Information Systems Auditor.
She began her career with Akintola Williams Deloitte (member firm of Deloitte Touché Tohmatsu) in 1987, with main focus in Corporate Finance activities. She was also involved in the audit of Banks and Other Financial Institutions. She joined FCMB in 2000 as Divisional Head of Internal Audit and Control before assuming the role of Chief Financial Officer of the Bank and now as CEO.
A top-notch Executive, Yemisi Edun, until her recent appointment, was the immediate past Chief Financial Officer of the Bank, a role she held after serving in various capacities in the bank since joining in 2000.
As FCMB Group Plc Chief Financial Officer, Yemisi Edun has ensured the institution provides financial services including micro-lending, asset management, stock-broking, trusteeship and custodial services, foreign exchange, personal banking, corporate and commercial banking, investment banking and transaction banking products delivering cash, trade and liquidity management solutions to entities with the utmost professional standard in the nation.
She began her professional career in 1987, with the Akintola Williams Deloitte (member firm of Deloitte Touché Tohmatsu.
In 2000, Mrs Edun joined FCMB as Divisional Head of Internal Audit and Control before assuming the role of Chief Financial Officer of the Bank
As the Chief Financial Officer of the Bank, Yemisi Edun has been a key part in the Bank’s corporate citizenship and celebration of International Days. The Bank makes valuable donations of food items, provisions, and non perishable items to orphans and vulnerable children across the country.
Bethesda Child Support Agency, an affiliate of Freedom Foundation, is an implementing partner of FCMB under the bank’s community investment initiative. Since 2007, FCMB has been sponsoring the education of secondary school pupils through the Bethesda Child Support programme. Bethesda presently has 352 orphaned and vulnerable children in its child support programme covering diverse areas like Mushin, Surulere, Isale Gangan and Ajegunle. Ten of the children are already enjoying FCMB secondary school scholarship.
In Port Harcourt, apart from the visitation and gift to Compassionate Children’s Home, staff of the bank also presented gifts to children at a party hosted for children in the state by the State Governor, Chibuike Rotimi Amechi.
Yemisi Edun is so passionate about the Bank’s commitment towards the education of orphans and vulnerable children in the society.
Through her influence, coupled with the influence of others at FCMB, the bank has been doing its part to break the cycle of poverty through the provision of qualitative child education that will help orphans and vulnerable children grow, thrive and develop to their full potentials.
In addition, the bank recognizes the importance of staff support and this further underscores the need to continue to involve them as its number-one stakeholders in taking steps to translate its aspiration into reality.
