President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Professor Segun Aina as the new registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
The appointment follow the completion of the tenure of Professor Is-haq Oloyede, the current registrar, which is expected to end on July 31, 2026.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by Bayo Onanuga, the president’s special adviser on information and strategy.
According to the statement, Aina—who is 39 years old and set to turn 40 in July—will become the youngest registrar in the history of JAMB.
He is expected to assume office after Oloyede formally concludes his second and final term.
The Presidency said the new appointment reflects Tinubu’s confidence in Aina’s expertise in technology, systems engineering, and institutional reform, noting that he is expected to build on the reforms already implemented in the examination body.
President Tinubu reportedly urged the incoming Registrar to leverage his experience in digital systems and public-sector transformation to strengthen JAMB’s operations and improve efficiency in Nigeria’s admission process.
Professor Aina is a Computer Engineering academic at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, with a background in digital systems, internet computing, and network security. He is also known for his work in examination technology systems and institutional digital reforms.
His academic qualifications include degrees from the University of Kent and Loughborough University in the United Kingdom, along with professional training at the Lagos Business School. He has also consulted for examination bodies such as NECO and NABTEB.
The Presidency noted that Aina has over 15 years of post-graduate experience working at the intersection of technology, policy, and public-sector transformation, with advisory roles in digital transition projects at both federal and state levels.
He is a member of several professional bodies, including COREN, the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), IEEE, and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).
With this appointment, Aina is set to take over leadership of JAMB at a critical time when the education sector is undergoing digital reforms aimed at improving transparency and efficiency in admissions nationwide.
