Delta North All Progressives Congress (APC) recently concluded the senatorial primary election on May 18th, 2026. At the primaries, the immediate past Governor of Delta state, His Excellency, Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, achieved a notable victory. His success as the party’s senatorial flagbearer for the 2027 general elections is a clear approval of his enduring political legacy.

This is shown in his unmatched grassroots mobilisation which attracted the loyalty being showered on him by the good people of Delta North. This sweeping victory also signifies a call for robust, experienced, and people-centered representation at the red chamber of the National Assembly.

The primary election was conducted smoothly across the nine local government areas constituting the Delta North Senatorial District. The process utilised was the direct primary system under the transparent Option A4 open ballot format. The highly anticipated contest featured a stellar lineup of prominent political titans.

The calibre of candidates at the primaries transformed the partisan process into a developed battleground for the political future of the district. The candidates at the APC Delta North primaries included the high-profile incumbent, Senator Ned Nwoko, alongside another formidable aspirant, Chief Maryam Ali.

Following a meticulous collation of lawful votes across all designated wards, the APC Returning Officer officially declared Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa the winner. He polled a staggering 113,309 votes, recording a landslide victory. The first runner up, Senator Nwoko, secured 2,612 votes, while Chief Maryam Ali finished third with 40 votes.

This decisive mandate shows the absolute confidence that card-carrying party members hold in Dr. Okowa’s capacity to champion the interests of Delta North. Party faithful lined up in their thousands across the various wards demonstrating that his brand of politics goes beyond mere words and insignificant structures.

His victory is not merely a win for an individual, but a collective triumph for equality, democratic expression, and targeted development. By choosing an experienced administrator and seasoned legislator, the APC in Delta North has positioned its strongest asset to secure an emphatic victory in the upcoming general elections.

Reacting to the landslide outcome, Dr. Okowa expresses profound humility and deep appreciation to the leadership of the APC. He specially acknowledges the primary election committee, security agencies, and the thousands of party loyalists who stood in the rain and sun to cast their ballots.

Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa promises to be visible, attentive, and impact-driven. He also vows to regularly return home to consult with his constituents. His focus is on legislative frameworks that will attract federal infrastructure, drive youth empowerment, and integrate Delta North seamlessly into the national development agenda.

Now that the primaries are done, APC prepares for the second phase of the electoral journey. The party’s state leadership calls on all aspirants, party stakeholders, and aggrieved groups to sheath their swords, embrace internal party mechanisms, and unite behind Dr. Okowa.

The primary is over, and the larger task of redeeming Delta North lies ahead. With Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa at the forefront, the APC stands stronger, bigger, and fully prepared to advance the fortunes of the district. The due dividends of democracy will be delivered to every household.
