When President Muhammadu Buhari appointed Dauda Biu as the Acting Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in July 2022, it did not come as a shock to many. His appointment followed the retirement of his predecessor, Boboye Oyeyemi.

Leadership experts’ belief is that everybody needs a dint of luck to hit it big in life. Consequently, many people are daily on the lookout for a lucky break. They hope and pray for something to happen to change the tide in their favour. But the best form of luck is that which is not dependent on external factors. As opined by Peter Drucker, father of modern management, the best way to predict the future is to create it. To put one’s luck in a factor beyond one’s control is to set oneself up for disillusionment.

In the case of Biu, he had created his own luck by being quick to meet needs, as a high-ranking officer in the Federal Road Safety Corps, whenever he saw it.
As a selfless leader, Biu had provided solutions in the sub-military body. Many of his subordinates look up to him for solutions when they run into a quandary.
Since his appointment Biu has sustained the tempo, while he ensured that he justifies his appointment as the Ag. Corps Marshal.
As a good follower himself, Biu is building on the good foundation the former Corps Marshal laid for the corps, and with the relay baton, he has continued where he stopped.

Before his appointment, Biu was the Deputy Corps Marshal, Finance and Accounts at the FRSC headquarters. A position he held without any stain on his personality or his office. He joined the FRSC in 1988 and has had a fruitful career working across several formations. He rose through the ranks through hard work, dedication and commitment to the rank of Deputy Corps Marshal before his latest elevation to the rank of acting corps marshal.

His appointment was greeted with countless social media commendations, especially from those who know who Biu is.

The seasoned road safety professional, Corps Marshal Dauda Ali Biu was born in the year 1964 in Zaria, Kaduna State. He hails from Hawul Local Government Area of Borno State.

Before his appointment as the Acting Corps Marshal, Biu was in charge of the Finance and Accounts Department at the national headquarters Abuja.

A Master’s degree holder in Business Administration (MBA) from Ahmadu Bello University, Biu was the Assistant Corps Marshal (ACM) Finance and Accounts in 2014 before becoming the DCM in 2016.
His professional qualifications include but are not limited to the following;Certified National Accountant 2010 Certified Public Accountant 2018.

Biu has also attended several courses outside the shores of the country which include: the International Association of Chiefs of Police Conference Chicago, USA (2019); World Conference of Accountants Sydney, Australia (2018)California Highway Patrol Academy Sacramento, USA (2016)Transport Research Board meeting Washington DC, USA (2014)Diamond School of Protocol and Etiquette Emotional Intelligence (2013)International Financial Reporting Standards SWAT Valley United Kingdom (2012) and of course,Performance Management Beyond the Balanced Scorecard Cranfield University, United Kingdom (2013).
Within the country, the newly appointed Acting Corps Marshal attended the Guards Brigade, the Nigerian Army Special Arms Bearing Training for Senior FRSC Officer (2013) and Flitch Institute of Directors Effective Governance Workshop Lagos, NigeriaGuards Brigade (2012) among others.

Also, the experienced officer is a member of a number of professional bodies among which include;International Association of Police (IACP), Association of National Accountants Ireland (CPA), Association of National Accountants of Nigeria and Transport Research Board USA.
Others are the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria, Nigeria Army Resource Centre (NARC) etc.

Biu, on different occasions since his appointment, promised that the Corps under his leadership will be more proactive in its response to emergencies on our highways. Regardless of the limitations hampering its operations.

Well, there is no gainsaying that the newly appointed acting Corps Marshal will deliver and surpass the achievements of his predecessors in office.

Congratulations to Corps Marshal Dauda Biu, who’s preparedness met with God’s appointed time.
