Governor of Delta and Vice-Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa, has condoled with the Unongo family, the Government and people of Benue State over the passing of former Minister of Steel Development, Mr Paul Unongo.

In a condolence message by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Olisa Ifeajika, in Asaba, Okowa said that the demise of the renowned politician and elder statesman was a great loss to the family and humanity, given his invaluable contributions to the country.

He stated that the deceased was a strong politician who was an inspiration to many politicians and technocrats, and had mentored many who had also made their marks in different spheres in Nigeria’s development.

“On behalf of my family, the government and people of Delta, I send my profound condolences to the Unongo family and the people of Jato Aka in Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State on the passing of their great son, Mr Paul Unongo.

“We remember with fond memories his contributions to the country’s development in many capacities, especially as Minister of Steel Development in the Second Republic.
“We pray to God to grant his soul eternal repose and give fortitude to the entire family to bear the irreparable loss,” Okowa stated.

Unongo, a foremost politician and elder statesman, reportedly died on Tuesday in Jos, at 87.

Until his death he was Chairman, Northern Elders’ Forum and Chairman, Governing Council of Nigerian Educational Research Development Council.
