Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta has charged medical personnel in the state to live up to expectations by providing effective and efficient medical services to residents of the state.
Okowa gave the charge at Ibusa, Oshimili North Local Government Area of the state while inaugurating and inspecting medical equipment and consumables donated to the state by two Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs).
He commended the doctors and health workers at the Asaba Specialist Hospital, Asaba, for maintaining standards and expressed the hope that other hospitals would also be providing responsive health care services to Deltans and residents.
The governor said his administration was committed to the development of the health sector with the provision of quality medical equipment and infrastructure in line with the government’s vision of quality healthcare services to the people.
According to him, it was the desire of the state government to have all hospitals across the state fully functional with modern equipment, adding that his administration has provided solar powered panels to hospitals to ensure they have steady electricity supply.
He noted that the medical equipment and consumables donated by the NGOs were in four different locations across the state and directed the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health and the Hospitals Management Board to immediately commence the distribution of the items to the various hospitals.
The governor said he was impressed by the donations made by two NGOs, Medshare Incorporation and A.D King Foundation both in the United States of America, noting that it would further help improve the level of equipment in government hospitals across the state.
He, therefore, commended Medshare Incorporation for sending a Medical Engineer to fix the equipment and train people who would handle, maintain and repair them (the medical facilities).
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Mordi Ononye commended Governor Okowa for his achievements in the health sector, noting that with the donations, Deltans would benefit more in terms of effective healthcare services.
Also speaking at the ceremony, the Chairman of Delta State Contributory Heath Insurance Scheme, Dr. Isaac Akpoveta said the medical equipment and consumables donated to the state by the NGOs which were brought in 20 containers worth over N2.7 billion when the dollar exchanged for N360 to a dollar and was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
A representative of Medshare Incorporation USA, Mr. Eben Armstrong said the items donates were valued at over N3 billion, pointing out that they had also, trained 35 Biomedical Engineers who,according to him, would maintain, repair and service the equipment.
Highlight of the event was the inauguration and inspection of the medical equipment and consumables by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.
