Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has expressed sadness over the demise of the Deputy Chief Whip of the House of Representatives, Hon. Adewunmi Onanuga.

He described the death of Hon. Onanuga, also known as ‘Ijaya,’ as a great loss to the country, her home State of Ogun, and Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency, where the lawmaker represented in the lower chamber of the National Assembly.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Gboyega Akosile, on Thursday, said the late Onanuga contributed her quota towards nation-building as a representative of her people in the Green Chamber.

Sanwo-Olu, who is the Chairman of the South-West Governors Forum, described the late Onanuga as a committed lawmaker who served her constituents, Ogun State, and Nigeria passionately until her sudden demise.

The Governor urged people to see Onanuga’s death as the will of God and take solace in Him for a good life spent by the deceased person during her lifetime.

He said: “On behalf of my family, the government, and the people of Lagos State, I express our heartfelt condolences to the immediate and political family of Hon. Adewunmi Onanuga, her friends, colleagues, and associates, especially the people of Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency, on the loss of the federal lawmaker.

“I also commiserate with the Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, members of the Green Chamber, and the entire National Assembly over the unfortunate demise of Hon. Onanuga.

“Hon. Adewunmi Onanuga died at a time when members of her constituency and indeed the entire Ogun State and Nigeria needed her service most. There is no doubt that she would be missed by the political class, particularly her constituents whose lives she had impacted positively in numerous ways while serving as a member of the House of Representatives.

“I pray for the repose of the soul of Hon. Adewunmi Onanuga, and God will grant the immediate and political family, friends, colleagues, and constituents the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.”
